What is a subject guide?

It is a guide to resources pertinent to a particular subject or research topic. The Walden Library uses subject guides to recommend useful web sites.

This is a pilot program; we may or may not continue to offer suject guides depending on how useful students find the resources.

Do I have to log in to these resources?

No. The subject guides offer links to material that is available free on the web. The subject guides are not connected with our research databases or other proprietary Walden resources.

Why do I see a log in prompt on subject guide pages?

Our subject guides site allows users to comment on the web sites presented. If you would like to leave comments, you can create a free personal username and password which will give you access to the comment features. However, this step is optional. You may use the subject guides without a log in.

Are the subject guides replacing the databases?

No, these resources are meant as a supplement to your core research which will use the e-journals, e-books, dissertations etc. that are available in the library databases.

Are these web sites peer-reviewed/scholarly?

Subject guides do not necessarily link to peer-reviewed jounals. However, each site has been selected by the library staff as a reliable source that may support your scholarly research.
